We are living together 24 hours a day and air inside our homes is more stuffy than usual. Under these circumstances, it is particularly essential to ventilate the house by airing common areas and rooms daily.
Benefits of open windows. Airing is the first step to eliminate harmful substances, avoiding bad smells and feeling of suffocation which can be caused by insulation. When we open windows:

  • Oxygenate air: we reduce CO2 concentration.
  • Regulate humidity to avoid dryness.
  • Reduce dust: suspended particles and bad smells are carried away by air flow created when we ventilating.
  • Allow sun’s UV rays, which heat and disinfect by acting against certain organisms.

If we do not ventilate enough, humidity can increase mould, allergies, bad breathing sensation, infections and polluting gases.

It is advisable to ventilate each room at least 10 minutes per day to air it out. If many people live together in the house, is recommended to ventilate longer and more often.

In the rooms:
Open the windows when you get up to remove any stuffy air produced during the previous night. Also, windows opened a few minutes before going to sleep is good.

Dining & Living room:
We will ventilate them as it suits us best and considering outside - local climate and season. In winter season, it is advisable to do it at midday, which is the hottest time of the day. On the other hand, in the summer, airing at evening, which is the coldest time of the day.

Kitchen & bathroom:
If there are windows, ventilate them every time they are used.

Finally, we must not forget that, in order to maintain good air quality in our home, is important to have quality doors and windows systems which contribute both to easy and quick ventilation and achieve maximum thermal and acoustic insulation. Our ultimate aim is creating a comfortable, safe and energy-efficient home.
