The expansion start-up of our recycling plant in Diksmuide, Belgium 2019, enables us to recycle up to 45,000 PVC tonnes per year. Recycling material is obtained from post-industrial collection waste (own and customers’ waste) including huge amounts of 30-40 year old PVC windows gradually being replaced. In this regard, new windows will be manufactured with the same features and characteristics as those originally manufactured. In order to continue working under a circular economy industry, we promote and encourage all manufacturers and installers to collaborate and join efforts in recycling process. Some materials that can be recycled and recovered are: PVC factory profiles, windows, doors, PVC shutter boxes, PVC cladding profiles, etc.

Due to the expansion of the recycling plant, with a capacity up to 45,000 recycled material tonnes, it will be possible to achieve:

  • Saving 2,3 million discarded or incinerated windows per year.
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to 90,000 round-trip flights between Paris and New York.
  • Energy consumption reduction. Recycled PVC consumes 90% less energy compared to virgin PVC, and it can recycled over 10 times without mechanical capacity loss, with 35 years life expectancy. PVC materials have a potential life cycle up to 350 years.

It also highlights the latest technology developed at the facility, which allows us to recycle all PVC colours and compositions profiles, including those with glass fibre. During recycling process, all contaminants are removed, ground and sorted by colour. After granulation, recycled material is used for new PVC window profiles extrusion.

The environmental and social challenges facing our planet have increasingly required society to consider sustainability as an indispensable factor. As our main materials and energy sources have become more difficult to obtain. And since ecosystem imbalances such as climate change and biodiversity loss have been confirmed, there is an urgent need to change the paradigm in the industrial sector, as it is aggravating Earth's unsustainable situation. So far, companies production model has been based on a linear value chain (extract, manufacture, use and throw away), but for some years now many they have been opting for another system: circular economy.

An alternative which consists in the extension of useful economic life of extracted materials and resources as much as possible, minimising waste generation. Thus, it is not necessary to continue extracting resources in order to replace material deficit, but the aim is recycling and reusing those already used to prolong their usefulness.

Deceuninck has been a pioneering company in this paradigm shift and is committed to more efficient and sustainable economic growth. PVC, present in the majority of our products, is a biodegradable material 100% recyclable and reusable at the end of its useful life. In addition to provide maximum thermal and acoustic insulation, is a low-maintenance product with a long useful life.
